Name-based criminal record checks (sometimes called “CPICs”) are the quickest and easiest way to determine if a person has a criminal record in Canada. These criminal record checks are performed using a person’s name and date of birth against the RCMP's Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) system. This consists of a check of the National Repository of Criminal Records and may also include searches of other national and local police databases.
The results of your name-based criminal record check will be emailed to you at the end of the process in a tamper-evident PDF document. At this time, we do not issue hard copies of the results.
*You might be required to submit fingerprints in the event an incomplete result is returned. This can happen if you share a similar name or date of birth with someone who has a criminal record.
This check is intended for applicants who are involved as a volunteer, employee or in any situation where a basic criminal record check is requested (e.g. labourer, retail or immigration). To begin processing your name-based criminal record check, complete and submit the following form to receive step-by-step instructions by email.
Position/Title (i.e. "immigration", "tenancy", "labourer") and Organization/Company (i.e. "Portugal", "ABC Housing Inc", "XYZ Ltd.") fields must be populated, "N/A" is not accepted and may result in delays to your application.
*Note: only electronic copies of the results are provided.
